Diffuser globe

Borosilicate glass, hand-blown, 1.4 mm wall

38 g Blown in Stourbridge, England

Borosilicate scatters the LED without a yellow cast and survives 300 thermal cycles without crazing. A frosted polycarbonate dome would have cost a tenth as much and gone milky in a year.

LED ring

24 × 2700 K Nichia 757 emitters on an aluminium-core board

14 g Assembled in Osaka, Japan

Twenty-four small emitters in a ring throw a soft, even light with no single hot spot. CRI 97, so the colour of what is under it is the real colour of the thing.

Reflector cup

Spun aluminium, anodised matte black inside

22 g Spun in Solingen, Germany

A matte black interior eats stray light so the globe is the only thing that glows. Spinning, not casting, keeps the wall a true 0.8 mm with no draft taper.

Head shroud

6061-T6 aluminium, bead-blasted, clear anodised

Cut from solid 6061 in one operation, not two halves glued together, so there is no seam to catch your thumb and nothing to rattle loose.

Knuckle joint

303 stainless, mirror-polished, PTFE-lined pivot

The head holds any angle for the life of the lamp because the friction is set by a wave spring, not by you over-tightening a screw until it strips.

Upper arm

6061-T6 aluminium tube, clear anodised, 14 mm

A 14 mm tube is stiff enough not to nod when you nudge it and thin enough to read as a line, not a pipe.

Elbow joint

303 stainless, mirror-polished, wave-spring tension

The same joint as the knuckle, scaled up. Two identical mechanisms instead of two clever ones is one fewer thing to learn and one fewer thing to break.

Lower arm

6061-T6 aluminium tube, clear anodised, 14 mm

Identical to the upper arm so the two share stock, finish and spare. Fewer unique parts is the whole point.

Stem collar

303 stainless, mirror-polished

The one piece that hides the cable entry, so the cord leaves the base cleanly and the join reads as a detail, not a fix.

Base puck

Cast iron core, machined 6061 cap, cork foot

1240 g Cast in Castlemaine, Australia

1.24 kg of iron in the base means the lamp never tips, never walks across the desk, and lets every part above it be as light as it can be.

Detail ring

Anodised aluminium, Axis Saffron

3 g Anodised in Adelaide, Australia

The one piece of colour on the whole lamp. Three grams of saffron at the head, so you can find the brand without a logo printed anywhere.
